Amber Ooley

Tell us your brief bio/running history.

Started running a few years ago when I had some time on my hands and was hooked after my first half marathon.

What running groups/communities are you involved with?

Last year I trained with Duluth Running Co.'s training group from January - June for the 25th Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon. Great group of encouraging people! This year I'm training solo, but I did launch RUN NORTH at the beginning of the year and I'm always learning and researching subjects curious to runners to share with fellow runners of all levels.

What is your favorite running experience?

That moment when I pause my garmin and realize: "Woah, I just did that." Also, I'm always in awe of the crowd of happy, penguin-walkers after crossing the finish line grabbing all the carbs we can get and, if it's available, enjoying a (free) ice cold beer with other racers to take back the well-burned calories. It's so awesome seeing others cross the finish line, too. Nothing beats cheering on strangers as a spectator. I feel for those in joy and in pain, overcoming obstacles and making their health and fitness goals a reality. Go you!

What events are you running/racing in 2016? What are your goals?

Get in Gear 2016 (4/30) Grandma's Marathon Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon (6/18)

What is your favorite book or author?

This answer changes monthly, but right now my favorite book is The Nightingale for fiction and Big Magic for personal development. I founded a book club to keep me reading, so I'm always trying new genres and authors, expanding my knowledge.

Favorite Fitsok sock and why?

Jewelpop - I'm a sucker for bright colors, and these make my feet happy.

Personal running accomplishments:

13.1x3, PR: 02:05:26 (working on running this year's' Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon under 2 hours)

What was the last rule you broke?

I'm terrible at breaking the rules, but sometimes I eat dessert before dinner. #majorsweettooth

What is your desert island shoe?

Bare feet for the sand, athletic sandals for the hikes through the rainforest.

What's your coffee order?

Light roast, no cream

What’s the number one race on your bucket list?

My dream race is the Grand Teton Half. I have a love-hate relationship with hills (inclines), but I think the views would be worth it.

What is your favorite distance to race?

13.1 is my favorite because it's always a challenge—mentally and physically—and you're usually guaranteed a large pasta dinner, a medal and a free beer post-run.

If you could have an endless supply of any food, what would it be?

French Toast

Anything else we (and the world) should know about you?

I'm so happy I fell into an obsession with running!
