Athlete Profile

Fitsok is excited to tell the stories of runners across the country and how they RUN FOR IT every day.

Tom Tisell, 43

Where are you from?

I live with my wife and our four children in St Paul, MN. I was born in New Jersey but grew up in Fort Myers, Florida.

When did you start running?

I started running in the 8th grade. That was 30 years ago and I haven’t stopped since!

Where do you enjoy running most?

Most everywhere! The Twin Cities are a great place to run but I also love running when we travel as a way to sightsee. The majority of my running, however, is done on an 8 ½ mile route between home and work as I often use it as my commute. My wife refers to me as our 2nd car.

What’s the biggest challenge you’ve faced as a runner?

I suffered a stress fracture while training for the 1996 Olympic Trials Marathon. It was very difficult lining up for the race knowing that I wouldn’t be able to run to my full potential. I did, however, finish and I’m very proud to have qualified to run.

You’ve had a lot of success running marathons. What advice would you give to a new runner?

Take it slow and keep it simple. Build up your mileage gradually over months not weeks. Also, buy your running shoes/clothes at a running specialty store. The employees are generally experienced runners and can offer great advice.

Tom, what motivates you? What do you “run for”?

Even after 30 years of running the competitive fire is still burning strong. It’s even more fun now when I can go out and beat guys half my age. The great byproducts are good health, being a role model for our kids, and never dealing with traffic on my commute!

Tell us about your experience wearing Fitsok.

I’ve worn a lot of socks in my 30 years of running and I can honestly tell you Fitsok is my favorite. I run as many as 110 miles a week and Fitsok has proven for me to be extremely comfortable and durable. The other thing I love about Fitsok is that they are local and the socks are made in the U.S. I’m proud to represent the company.
