Athlete Profile

Fitsok is excited to tell the stories of runners across the country and how they RUN FOR IT every day.

Lawrence Thompson, 35

LT, where is your favorite place to run?

In the woods and mountains. There is something so elemental and peaceful about it. I’m from Hickory, North Carolina.

Tell us about your history as a runner/triathlete.

When I started running races I was a back of the pack runner and racer. At first it was all about survival and it was a few years before I really started ‘racing’. Over the years I have taken enormous satisfaction out of seeing my performance improve relative to my peers. While I will never compete with the elites, I take great pride in where I have come from, and anticipate much future progress! My first race ever was a sprint triathlon and I loved it (and still do love sprints). Since then I have taken great joy in a variety of races participating in all triathlon and running distances, on road and off road, etc.

What’s the most fun event you’ve ever been a part of?

I have to say the most fun event I have ever been a part of was something completely different from my normal race schedule. A group of friends and I signed up for and completed an adventure race. We were clueless and hapless at the start, and for a while things looked pretty grim (we thought we might die) but we ended up winning. It was unbelievable – and an experience I will never forget. Sometimes it is great to get out of your routine and do something you have never done before (and may never do again).

What motivates you – What do you “RUN FOR”?

I love this question. I led an active lifestyle growing up and was part of a family that loved sports, hiking, skiing, etc. Anything outdoors. For a few years in my early 20’s I got away from that and was working hard, eating too much, and not running. My weight quickly got away from me. I went for an easy and friendly hike one day and my knee started hurting. At first I assumed I had twisted it, and then I realized I was pathetically overweight and out of shape. I had always admired the 60 year olds I ran into on the mountains, and here I was in my 20’s and already failing…

Now my exercise and racing habit allows me to do just about anything I want and do it well. Last year I climbed Mt. Rainier with my brothers. I couldn’t have done that ten years ago. So I run primarily for the joy of an active and fulfilling lifestyle. That I love the pure joy of running doesn’t hurt, and the friendly competition of races is an added bonus.

Tell us about your experience wearing Fitsok!

Ever since a friend recommended Fitsok to me a couple years ago they have become my favorite sock and have taken me through every marathon, Ironman, sprint and 5k. They fit comfortably and correctly (very important), and are tough enough to endure a beating and last without compromising their quality.
